Dennis Freeman, the owner of Rodmakers, is a former banker, insurance and real estate developer. He moved to Austin, Texas, from the Minnesota/North Dakota area in 1973. After the real estate crash of the late ’80′s, Dennis discovered his true passion: rodbuilding and fishing. He began Rodmakers of Austin in 1989, and the Rodmaker’s House Bed and Breakfast in Rockport/Fulton. Since 1989 he has instructed over 1,000 rod builders, designed and built rods for offshore, ultralight, spin, baitcasting, and most particularly, fly.
His philosophy of operating Rodmakers is very uncomplicated: “Keep it simple”, and he loves to share his knowledge of rod building and fishing (especially fly fishing) with others. You’ll rarely see Dennis out of shorts and sandals, even in the middle of a Texas winter!
Dennis will provide casting instruction for beginning Fly Fishers when purchasing a fly rod built by Dennis.
