- Dennis Freeman, the owner of Rodmakers, is a former banker, insurance and real estate developer. He moved to Austin, Texas, from the Minnesota/North Dakota area in 1973. After the real estate crash of the late '80's, Dennis discovered his true passion: rodbuilding and fishing. He began Rodmakers of Austin in 1989, and the Rodmaker's House Bed and Breakfast in Rockport/Fulton. Since 1989 he has instructed over 1,000 rod builders, designed and built rods for offshore, ultralight, spin, baitcasting, and most particularly, fly.
